'Hemingway vs. Callaghan' is based on the true story of the friendship between Ernest Hemingway and Morley Callaghan in Toronto and Paris between 1923 and 1929.

When a wealthy publisher dies, leaving behind the family fortune, his son and heir apparent is shocked to discover that the business has been left in the hands of the man s trusted lawyer, who has been instructed to divide the wealth equally among the family members under the condition that they resolve life-long family issues within eight hours or the company will be sold, and the proceeds given to charity. Frank, a retired Irish seaman, and Walter, a retired Cuban barber, are two lonely old men trapped in the emptiness of their own lives. When they meet in a park Frank is able to start a conversation after several attempts. They begin to spend time together and become friends. But because of their different characters they often quarrel with each other and finally seperate after Frank misbehaves to Walter's friend Elaine.

A young man visits an old (and older) friend at his apartment. They share a few drinks, and reminiscences turn to recriminations.
